Climate Change: Science, Impact, and Action
Climate change is in all probability the most pressing issue that mankind is facing today, if not the biggest problem, we may say.
IPCC has been known to describe climate change as “the long-term average of weather, usually calculated over a period of 30 years for temperature, precipitation, and other climatic elements at a particular location.” In more detail, climate change is the situation when the weather has changed its normal state a few months or years after and the average and variation of the weather condition have also been altered in either a shorter or longer period of time.
In this context, climate and atmosphere are synonymous and global warming is a change in the usual state of the atmospheric variable and it includes the variation of the state over time, i.e. decades to millions of years.
Environmentalist currently blame the phenomenon of the global warming for the appearance of different consequences. Those consequences are not only the effects of climate change as a matter of fact. If we are going to continue emitting greenhouse gases the way we do now, the consequences will be even more devastating.
With respect to the above, it is worth noting that the impact of greenhouse gas emissions on the environment and human health is quite dramatic. Some of the most abundant greenhouse gases that are responsible for global warming are combined with carbon dioxide and methane.
The widespread rise in the earth’s surface temperature realized over the last hundred years is mainly due to the increment in the number of greenhouse gases in the air.
a) Effects of climatic change:
Changes in weather patterns have different impacts on various ways such as thedisruption of weather and it affects the environment in various ways. A few of these are more explicitly illustrated below:
RISING SEA LEVEL: As the earth’s temperature rises, the ice caps and glaciers get warmer and begin to melt which in turn causes the sea level to rise. The humidity and the resulting rise of the sea level are the two primary threats to the coastal communities and ecosystems
BANAL EXTREME: The amplified state of global climatic changes cause like, for example, heat waves, torrents, dry periods, wildfires, etcetera are the results of which humanity is sufferingm because of the extreme case of the weather.
Natural world climate changes: The rise in temperature has led to the flora and fauna of the earth mostly beginning to feel that their environment is changing thus are unsure of the conditions.
What can you do to help the planet in the fight against climate change?
Individuals or groups have many ways by which they can aid in the fight against global warming and the mitigation of its hazardous effects on our planet. These are the most likely ways to be the first to be implemented, most probably:
Renewable: One of the challenges is to see the earth move on from the existing fossil fuels to renewable energy in a phased manner together with the energy industry.
Energy efficiency: Energy efficiency is efficiency in the use of energy that leads to reduction in energy use (demand) in all parts of the economy, i.e., households and offices, industry and services.
Forests: The most effective way to combat carbon dioxide is to do so through the maintenance of the existing forests by planting new trees and establishing the forests as the main carbon sinks, which in turn benefits the atmosphere.
Change our way of living: A reorganization of life is what is meant. This concept implies a change of lifestyle in various areas such as burning fewer resources, recycling more, burning less meat, among others.
The issue of climate will certainly always be a question of unique importance to humankind and then it will probably be the only one through which we can completely solve it. Someway, it is only in that way that all the fine points laying a path to a much better quality of life for us will be a reality.
